Schools Attempting To Poach Putnam

Brandon Putnam, defensive end at Sandy Creek High School in Tyrone, Ga., knows the business of college football. He remains strong on his commitment to Duke, but that hasn't stopped other schools from contacting the Peach State standout.

"A couple schools are still talking to me," Brandon Putnam said. "Stanford and Arkansas have been talking to me a lot. They're just basically checking in on me. They're keeping me updated, and both are talking about how they wanna keep building their recruiting classes."

"Michigan State and Vanderbilt have also been coming after me. Vanderbilt has been by the school. Michigan State has been sending lots of mail. Michigan State has called a few times, too." "My commitment to Duke is still very solid. I'm talking to the coaches weekly. There's a 90percent chance that I'll sign with Duke on signing day, but I'm still keeping the door open just a bit."

Putnam would consider offers from a couple of in-state programs.

"If one of the big in-state programs (Georgia and Georgia Tech) offered I'd definitely consider it," he said. "I'm a Georgia boy, but more important than that, I'd consider them because the whole recruiting process has become a business. I could definitely market myself well at one of those schools."

Putnam has already taken one official visit. He may consider taking a few more before signing day.

"I've taken an official to Duke," he commented. "I've thought about taking one to Stanford or Arkansas. If it arises I may take one, but I'm not gonna push the situation."

Will Duke land Putnam's signature on signing day? Stay tuned to to track this development all the way through signing day.
