Jersey Receiver Has Duke Offer Among Others

Shakim Phillips suffered a ligament injury in his thumb during the last game of his season and is now ready to start lifting again after allowing himself to heal up over time. Because of this he is going to have to skip a few combines early in the spring, however he should be back to 100-percent very soon.

De Paul Catholic High School wide receiver Shakim Phillips is receiving a ton of interest right now from programs like Rutgers, Boston College, North Carolina, Purdue, Ohio State, Georgia, Notre Dame, Penn State, Virginia, West Virginia, Oregon, Florida and Vanderbilt and the 6-foot-2, 192-pound athlete has also picked up another offer to add to his portfolio which already included an offer from the Duke Blue Devils.

"Coach Jeff Hafley from Pittsburgh talked to me a while back and they offered me a scholarship to play there," Phillips stated. "Coach Hafley seemed like a really good guy and while I don't know a whole lot about Pittsburgh I have watched them for a long time now because Larry Fitzgerald is my favorite player. I really started watching them as much as possible when he was there and have just kept watching them since I guess. I'm planning on visiting there, but just don't have a date yet."

"I went to Rutgers for junior day last weekend and learned a lot about them which has made me like them a lot more," Phillips explained. "They really stress family and understand that people make the difference in team chemistry which I really believe in. I just felt extremely comfortable at Rutgers."

As a junior, Phillips caught 40 passes for 850 yards and 12 touchdowns.
