Watkins, rated as the nation's No. 100 wide receiver and a three star prospect according to Scout.com, had committed to Virginia on November 22nd, but kept his unofficial visit scheduled to Duke for this month. That occured this past weekend and the pitch was good enough to earn the switch.
He immediately becomes one of the more decorated recruits in the class of 2009 - sporting an offer sheet that includes Penn State, Pittsburgh, Iowa State, Virginia, Rutgers, Syracuse, Stanford, Iowa, and others.
As a junior, Tytree Watkins caught 70 passes for 900 yards and 11 touchdowns. On defense he recorded 30 tackles, broke up 15 passes, intercepted four passes and forced three fumbles. Watkins said he bench presses 285-pounds, squats 320 and has a 34-inch vertical jump.
Slated to play receiver at Duke, Watkins describes himself as having "great hand-eye coordination. I'm a good route-runner and have great footwork. I like being physical and run smooth."
