Duke will sport the home white uniform a second time vs. Florida State on March 3, and unveil the road blue version at North Carolina on March 8.
Using Nike Aerographics technology, an engineered mesh providing zoned cooling and reducing the yarn by half, the weight of the jersey is reduced by 31 percent compared to current uniforms. Duke will be the first college program wearing jerseys that utilize this technology.
"We are excited that we can tell a compelling story about the rich tradition of Duke University using graphic elements on the back of the jersey," said Eric Lautenbach, Nike Inc. Director of College Basketball. "Duke is a prestigious university and we are thrilled to unveil this innovation with this program."
The alternate Duke jerseys have similarities to the USA Senior National Team jerseys worn during the 2008 Olympic Games. An exclusively designed "We the People" graphic, inspired by USA's rich history, was also integrated into the USA jersey. Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski led stars Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and Dwyane Wade to Team USA's first gold medal since the 2000 Games in Beijing last summer.
"The aerographic design on the USA Basketball Senior National team uniform became one of the symbols that Coach K used to help the team feel the importance of their journey and all that it represented," said Lautenbach. "Similarly, the graphic on the Duke version allows the student-athletes to represent the university's unique heritage. Rather than doing a strictly basketball-inspired symbol, Coach K asked us to create a graphic that represented Duke University, not just Duke Basketball."
"Nike consistently looks to be on the forefront of uniform and shoe design," said Krzyzewski. "We are fortunate to have Nike as such a strong supporter of Duke Athletics. Their creative and marketing teams are unrivaled. We're glad they're part of our team here at Duke."
In August, Duke and Nike reached a 10-year sponsorship agreement that will supply all 26 of the Blue Devils' athletics teams with uniforms, footwear, apparel and equipment.
