Depth Chart Notables: Week 2

In their second game of the season the Blue Devils welcome back some players from injury, and have seen a few shakeups on the depth chart. TDD examines both circumstances heading into the game with Army.

Injury Report: No real surprises on the injury report other than Kinney Rucker moving from the probable category to not appearing at all. That's good news for the Blue Devils' defensive line depth as the fifth year senior will provide more depth along the defensive front. As he continues to get healthy, Rucker could challenge to move into the starters' rotation.

Depth Chart Notables:

  • The return of Rucker to the 2-deep at defensive tackle has given the Blue Devils a pair of quality reserves at the defensive tackle and nose guard positions. Rucker will back up NFL prospect Vince Oghobaase at tackle, while Drew will be behind third year guard Charlie Hatcher.
  • Another development associated with Rucker's return is the move of Brandon Harper from the defensive line back to the offensive line. Against Army the 6'3, 305lbs fourth year junior will back up Mitch Lederman at the left guard position.
  • After strong performances in week one, freshman receivers Conner Vernon and Tyree Watkins have solidified themselves on the 2-deep with Vernon earning a place on the field when Duke goes with a three receiver set.
  • It would appear as though a redshirt will not be taken on true freshman David Harding who appears as the backup right guard (behind Brian Moore).
  • Former right guard Jon Needham has moved into the reserve right tackle role for Pontus Bondesson in relief of Jarrod Holt.
  • Meanwhile fourth year junior Robert Drum has failed off the two-deep on the offensive line after being the second team left guard in week one.
  • In the return game, Jay Hollingsworth has overtaken Patrick Kurunwune as the second kick off returner alongside Re'quan Boyette.
