Monroe Star Picks Duke

Commitment number 14 is in the bag for the Blue Devils. This time it's in the form of 6'5 197 pound Monroe (N.C.) High standout Issac Blakeney who picks Duke over an official offer from East Carolina coupled with several in-state school looks.

"Coach Cutcliffe called me and told me that they were offering me a scholarship," Issac Blakeney confirmed via text on Tuesday morning. "I immediately accepted and committed. Duke was where I wanted to go all along."

A virtual unknown throughout most of the process, Blakeney popped up on the Duke radar after an impressive Shrine Bowl combine last year here he measured out at a true 6-foot-5 and 194 pounds while being clocked running a 4.51 forty. To prove his athleticism further, Blakeney recorded a 33.6 inch vertical jump. Coupled with his size, he's one of those receivers that gives quarterbacks the option of serving up jump balls in the endzone.

Currently rostered as a receiver, safety, and even linebacker for Monroe High, Blakeney is also a track star who has won a pair of 2A championships in the triple jump with a recorded leap of 48 feet, 4.5 inches. In addition he's a basketball standout for the Redhawks, averaging just over 17 points per game.

So far this season Blakeney is averaging just over three catches for 65 yards per game for the 3-0 Redhawks. Defensively he's totaled nine tackles and two assisted stops.

He is expected to attend Duke's next home game against North Carolina Central.
