Number Three For Cutcliffe

Jalen "Scoot" Simmons (5'9, 195, 4.5) a running back from Charlotte has committed to Duke making him the third member of the class of 2011.

"I committed to Duke this morning after attending junior day yesterday," said Jaylen Simmons. "Honestly I sat down with my parents after leaving and just realized that Duke was the best place for me."

Simmons, a 5'9, 195lbs running back prospect reported only a Blue Devil offer, but said he was getting interest from North Carolina, NC State, and Clemson among others in the early going. However, the Duke staff's early interest was enough to earn his early commitment.

"Duke was in there early. My coach, Scotty Montgomery, was a real big part of my decision. I know he's moving on to the Steelers, but he showed me a lot of what going there could mean. When I see where Duke is going with their football program and what kind of benefit their academics give, it's easy."

As a junior for West Charlotte Simmons ran for 1,100 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2009. During the middle of the year the Blue Devils reached out with a tentative offer. Then, on Saturday came junior day followed by the call to Cutcliffe.

"He was really happy with everything and told me that he's excited to get me on campus and to be part of the program. They told me all about the plans the program has coming up, so I can't wait."
