Not So Fast on Tenn. OL Commit

On Monday there were a number of sources confirming that Lucas Patrick had indeed pulled the trigger for the Blue Devils. However, when reached for comment later that night, Patrick set the record straight.

"I am not committed to Duke at this time," said Lucas Patrick. "I think there was a miscommunication between myself and the coaches. I very much like Duke and they are my top choice, but right now I am praying about the decision and still going through the process."

So, could that mean the Blue Devils have missed out on the 6-foot-3, 285 pound offensive guard?

"No, not at all. I believe [Duke] will ultimately be the best place for me to grow and earn my education, but with such a big decision I need to make sure I'm not rushing into anything."

Having already earned offers from Middle Tennessee State, Arkansas, Western Kentucky, and being "close" to an offer from the staff at Vanderbilt, Patrick knows he has a lot of good options available to him. And it's easy to see why. When asked for a scouting report on himself, Patrick says:

"I am a physical lineman who has pretty good feet. The offense our [high school] team uses is an option style system so it's important to get off the line and finish your blocks while trying to get up field. I think that will serve me at the next level."

That's certainly what Duke is hoping for - provided that skillset will be heading to Durham. Which could, eventually, be the case. And the chances of that?

"Very good. I think it'd take a lot for me not to end up there."
