Devils Land Tennessee O-Lineman

A need in the class of 2011 is along the offensive line. The Blue Devils took a big step in that direction on Saturday when Brentwood (Tenn.) offensive lineman Lucas Patrick made his decision. This time, it was official.

"I have committed to Duke," said Lucas Patrick. "Before I was leaning, but I had prayed about it and I was sure this is the right choice for me."

Patrick, a 6-foot-3, 285 pound offensive guard, had been rumored to have committed in late March, but those reports proved to be a misunderstanding. At that time he said if a decision had to come at that moment, he'd be a Blue Devil.

Now, nearly a month later, the time is right and so is his commitment.

"The coaching staff the school are just the right fit for me. I have a great chance to play at a high level and get a great education. I really feel that it was a great choice."

Patrick chose Duke over offers from Middle Tennessee, Memphis, Arkansas, Western Kentucky, Vanderbilt, and others. It's easy to see why so many schools were interested in him.

"I am a physical lineman who has pretty good feet. The offense our [high school] team uses is an option style system so it's important to get off the line and finish your blocks while trying to get up field. I think that will serve me at the next level."
