"I have talked to the offensive line coach, Coach Luke, a lot on the phone and have become very close with him. He is very up front with everything and I cannot say enough good things about him. I actually got a hand-written letter from him today. I am making plans to visit the campus this summer."
One constant through each of those conversations has been Duke's commitment to breathing new life into program and building a perennial ACC Contender.
"The coaching staff could not stress enough about how their program is going to be on the rise. The bottom line is they said they are going to win. I think they are going to do that and have a great year."
Of course the Blue Devils are also selling the traditional Duke bill of goods beginning with the academics.
"The bottom line is they want to win and they offer a great chance to get a great education."
In addition to Duke, Hounshell says he's interested in Michigan State, Wisconsin, Notre Dame , West Virginia, Vanderbilt, and Central Florida. All but the Irish and Badgers have offered.
When it comes time to narrow down his list, Chase says he's going to focus on the kind of relationship the coaches and players have as well as the kind of role and playing time the staff would see him playing for the program.
A self scouting report from Hounshell was provided as follows:
"I'm very fast and athletic for my size. I'm 6-foot-6 and I weigh 260 pounds and can run in the low 4.8s in the forty with a 4.2 shuttle run. I am also very strong with a max bench press of 345 pounds. I have been told my hips are tight and staying low on the football field at all times." updates for scout.com, offers: Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Duke, Central Michigan, Wyoming
