Alabama Lineman Enjoyed Duke Camp

The camp season is an opportunity for players to make a name for themselves and earn the scholarships they seek. That was the hope when Centre (Ala.) Cherokee County High defensive tackle Hudson Grimes made a trip to Durham.

"I really enjoyed the camp," said Hudson Grimes. "I was invited by Coach Middleton and had a chance to talk to him a good bit. The whole day was great. It was my first time being at Duke for a visit and I really liked seeing the plans for the facilities and the new fields."

In addition to camping with Duke, Grimes has attended several other events including stints at Tennessee, Southern Miss, North Carolina, NC State and Clemson. While in Durham Grimes measured out at 6-foot-2 and 251 pounds and them competed in several different workouts.

"There was a really high level of competition and I thought I competed very well. Coach Middleton was talking to me about recruiting and about me having other chicness to come to campus for visits. I also had a chance to introduce myself to Coach Luke and Coach Hobby. Coach Luke seemed to like me a good bit."

"Overall I think it was a very successful camp. I did really well in one on one drills. I'm always trying to get better so I think I could have done better on everything. I've started and played defensive end for my high school and then I've also moved to center on the offensive line. I feel like I am really starting to grow into that role."

Though the Blue Devils have not offered a scholarship at this time, Grimes says they are at or near the top of his list and an offer would do wonders to solidify that.

"My level of interest in Duke is very high. I try to be excited when I talk to any school, but my whole life I've liked Duke and I had some family ties to the university as well. They haven't offered me yet, but have said they want to keep recruiting me and an offer could come."

"Overall Duke is definitely near the top of my list and in my top five with Clemson, Southern Mississippi, Tennessee, and Wyoming. I am also hearing from a couple of Ivy League schools."
