Varner's five 100-yard receiving games in 2009 came against N.C. State (7-154), Maryland (8-120), Virginia (7-113), Miami (8-165) and Wake Forest (11-174) to match the school's third-highest single-season total in that category.
The Miami, Fla., native was the top vote-getter among wide receivers, appearing on 27 of the 52 ballots cast.
The lone Blue Devil named to the squad, Varner was joined on the offensive unit by Christian Ponder (QB/Florida State), Ryan Williams (RB/Virginia Tech), Montel Harris (RB/Boston College), Torrey Smith (WR/Maryland), George Bryan (TE/N.C. State), Anthony Castonzo (OT/Boston College), Chris Hairston (OT/Clemson), Rodney Hudson (OG/Florida State), Thomas Claiborne (OT/Boston College) and Sean Bedford (C/Georgia Tech).
The defensive team included Robert Quinn (DE/North Carolina), Allen Bailey (DE/Miami), Marvin Austin (DT/North Carolina), Jarvis Jenkins (DT/Clemson), Alex Wujciak (LB/Maryland), Quan Sturdivant (LB/North Carolina), Luke Kuechly (LB/Boston College), Kendric Burney (CB/North Carolina), Brandon Harris (CB/Miami), DeAndre McDaniel (S/Clemson) and Deunta Williams (S/North Carolina). Matt Bosher (K & P/Miami) and Smith (KR) earned special teams recognition.
