Field Set for A-10 Men's Tournament

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Defending champion Xavier is the top seed for the 2007 Atlantic 10 Men's Basketball Championship, which begins on Wednesday, March 7 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ. (Dukes will face Saint Louis at 6:30 p.m.)

Riding an eight-game winning streak, the Musketeers shared the regular season title with Massachusetts at 13-3 in Conference play but earned the top seed by virtue of their 83-77 win over the Minutemen on Jan. 18. Xavier (23-7/13-3) seeks its fifth title in program history and third in the last four years.

Massachusetts (23-7/13-3) earned a share of the regular season crown for the first time since winning the A-10 East Division in 1995-96. Led by senior forward Stephane Lasme, who leads the Conference in rebounding (9.4 rpg) and blocks (5.13 bpg), the Minutemen are vying for their first A-10 Championship since 1996.

George Washington (20-8/11-5) garnered the third seed with a mark of 11-5 in league action while reaching the 20-win mark for the third consecutive season. Rhode Island (17-13/10-6) and Fordham (17-11/10-6) tied for fourth at the end of the regular season, but URI earned the fourth seed by virtue of the league's tie-breaking procedures.

The opening round of the 31st Atlantic 10 Men's Basketball Championship commences on Wednesday with four games. Eighth-seeded Dayton (18-11/8-8) meets ninth-seeded Charlotte (14-15/7-9) at noon, followed by No. 5 Fordham versus 12th-seeded Richmond (8-21/4-12). The second opening round session begins at 6:30 pm with Saint Louis (18-12/8-8), seeded seventh, squaring off against tenth-seed Duquesne (10-18/6-10). The final contest of the opening round matches sixth-seeded Saint Joseph's (17-13/9-7) against Temple (12-17/6-10), the 11th seed.

The Championship continues with quarterfinal round play on Thursday, March 8. Xavier opens quarterfinal round action at 12:00pm by facing the winner of the Dayton-Charlotte game. Then it's Rhode Island against either Fordham or Richmond at 2:30pm. The evening session of the quarterfinal round begins at 6:30pm with Massachusetts taking on the Saint Louis-Duquesne winner, while George Washington squares off against the Saint Joseph's-Temple victor in the nightcap.

Semifinal round play takes place on Friday, March 9, beginning at 6:30pm. The final round of the Atlantic 10 Championship will be played on Saturday, March 10. Tip-off is 6:00pm.
