National Letter Signing Period Starts Wed.

The National Letter of Intent spring signing period starts today, Wednesday, April 11, 2007, and runs for five weeks through Wednesday, May, 16, 2007. There is unlikely to be a slew of announcements on the first day, unlike the fall period which encompasses just eight days.

The players who sign in the late period include most jucos as well as those preps who weren't ready and/or able to ink an NLI in the fall.

And coaching changes can open up the recuiting for players who had signed in the fall. The youths still need to negotiate out of the NLI, but the process is way less cumbersome now.

This is one factor that had to be involved in the Bonnies' announcement of their new coach (Mark Schmidt) yesterday. Three players signed in the fall with SBU and then-head coach Anthony Solomon.

There have already been some players who have announced they will be transferring from Atlantic 10 Conference schools. Arrival announcements will start later in the spring, once the colleges' school year has been completed.

We'll have coverage of the recruiting activity here at DuquesneSports.com (duquesne.scout.com).
