Dukes A-10 Basketball Opponents Announced

Five of the top six finishers in this season's Atlantic 10 men's standings and two of three NCAA Tournament participants on the women's side will visit the Palumbo Center in 2007-08, according to home and away conference schedules for both men's and women's basketball released by the league office on Wednesday.

The DU men will host Fordham, George Washington, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Saint Joseph's - all top six conference finishers in 2006-07 - as well as Dayton, Richmond and St. Bonaventure.

The Duquesne women will welcome NCAA tourney teams George Washington and Xavier in addition to Charlotte, Dayton, La Salle, Massachusetts and St. Bonaventure.

On the men's side, the Dukes will face Rhode Island, Richmond and St. Bonaventure twice with Rhode Island and Richmond taking the place of Fordham and La Salle which the Dukes played home-and-home in each of the past two seasons.

The Duquesne women will play every team once, with the exception of St. Bonaventure which DU will face both in Pittsburgh and Olean, N.Y.

Dates and times for the games will be announced by the conference at a later date.

"Our fans will have an opportunity to get a first-hand look at some of the top teams in the Atlantic 10," said second-year DU men's coach Ron Everhart. "We had one of the youngest league's in the country last season - I think 14 of the 19 players named to the All-Conference team are back ... there are no off days in the Atlantic 10."

"Having two of the A-10's three NCAA Tournament teams visit the Palumbo will be a great motivator for our team," said Suzie McConnell-Serio who was named head women's coach on April 13. "I know the players will work hard to prepare for that challenge."

Everhart, who returns all but one player from last year's 10-19 Atlantic 10 Tournament qualifier, will add a pair of talented newcomers in transfers Shawn James (Northeastern) and Kojo Mensah (Siena). James, a 6-10 forward, led the nation in blocked shots two year's ago, while Mensah, a 6-1 guard, averaged 16.6 points per game as a starter at Siena in 2005-06. James and Mensah, both juniors, will be joined by senior center Kieron Achara - a member of the 2006-07 Atlantic 10 All-Defensive Team and sophomore Robert Mitchell who was named A-10 Rookie of the Year last season.

McConnell-Serio will have nine players back from last year's 7-20 squad including starters Kristi Little and Jocelyn Chandler.

Complete schedules for both teams will be announced in September.
