Waiting For News on Kieron Achara

Great Britain's National Team completed the 'tryout' camp on Friday at IMG Academies in Sarasota, Fla., a familiar 'spring break' setting for the Dukes' second semester sports. No word yet on which players made the team: in the meantime, here's additional information (college, position, etc.) on the roster including news about GW's Pops Mensah-Bonsu. And a surprise DU connection.

For those who like interesting names, here's another one: Georgia College & State University. (Men's basketball has a game with such as South Carolina Upstate.)

Three players were unable to participate at the camp. In addition to Pops, Tarick Johnson was delayed because of a family matter while Joel Freeland, a first round draft pick in 2006 by the Portland Trail Blazers who competed on Portland's summer league team in Las Vegas this month, is working to make the team this year. He didn't in 2006.

Pops Mensah-Bonsu, who averaged 8.2 points and 8.8 rebounds in Vegas, does not have a guaranteed contract with the Dallas Mavericks. He played in 12 games in 2006-07. Dallas must make a decision to sign or release Pops by August 31st, a situation that got more complicated when the Mavs signed LSU forward Brandon Bass to a two-year free agent contract. Bass played in 50 games for New Orleans the past two seasons.

Other Mavs in the boat with Mensah-Bonsu, according to media reports, are forwards Reyshawn Terry (Orlando's second round pick this year from North Carolina who was traded to Dallas) and Nick Fazekas (2007 second round pick from Nevada) and guard Jose Juan Barea (a free agent signee last year from Northeastern - yep a Coach Ron Everhart player).
