Dukes Win, 85-58, in Final Reg. Season Game

Duquesne men's basketball team stopped a five-game losing streak with an 85-58 win over Saint Louis, Saturday afternoon at the Palumbo Center in the final regular season contest for both. The Dukes and the Billikens each have 7-9 Atlantic 10 Conference records.

Duquesne's three seniors, who were honored prior to the tip and when they exited the game late in the second half, led the scoring. Kieron Achara, who was a perfect 12-12 from the foul line, tallied 24 points. Gary Tucker had 14 points, including an alley oop dunk as the whistle blew to end the first half. Reggie Jackson, who assisted on Tucker's dunk, added 12 points.

Junior Kojo Mensah scored 11 points off the bench. Reggie Jackson, at 6-foot-1, led DU with six rebounds, seven assists and four steals. Achara had a game-high four blocks.

The Dukes (17-12, 7-9) scored first and extended the lead to 9-4. Saint Louis head coach Rick Majerus responded with a 30-second timeout. The Billikens returned to the court and had a 16-8 run to go up, 20-17. Achara sank two of his free throws to put the Dukes back on top, 23-22, an advantage Duquesne kept until the final buzzer.

Tucker's dunk made the halftime score, 41-26. Saint Louis didn't make a basket from 3:09 of the first half until the 14:02 mark of the second. By then, DU was ahead 53-31.

The lead grew to as many as 32, 82-50, on freshman Bill Clark's three-pointer. Duquesne held the Billikens to seven second half baskets, a 22.6 percent shooting average.

Saint Louis (16-14, 7-9) was led by Tommie Liddell III who had 20 points. Danny Brown added 12 points. Luke Meyer and reserve Barry Eberhardt each had six rebounds. Kevin Lisch had three assists and two steals.

Seedings and opponents for next week's A-10 championship tournament will be announced after the last game of the day. There are three this evening.
