Dukes Host Ontario Blue Jays on 9-21

The Duquesne baseball program will play host to two events at Duquesne Field in September. The Dukes will welcome the Ontario Blue Jays on Sunday, Sept. 21 and the annual Alumni Day activities will take place on Sunday, Sept. 28.

The Red and Blue will take a brief break from fall practice when they take on the Ontario Blue Jays traveling squad on Sunday, Sept. 21 at noon at Duquesne Field in the Pittsburgh suburb of Green Tree.

The Ontario Blue Jays are a traveling team consisting of players 16-18 years old who play top college competition annually. The Blue Jays played schools such as Arkansas, Kansas, Wichita State, Auburn and Florida in the past.

The game with the Blue Jays will not count towards Duquesne's record or number of games allowed in 2009. The NCAA permits teams to play one game per year against international competition.

On Sept. 28, Alumni Day will open at noon with the "not-so-recent" alumni playing a game against each other. At least 14 people will need to sign up in advance for this game to take place. At 2:30, the more recent alumni will take on the 2008-09 Dukes.

All alumni participants will receive a complimentary t-shirt as well as food and beverage. Contact the baseball office at 412-396-5245 or by e-mail at wilson@duq.edu if you would like to participate. All baseball alumni are encouraged to attend even if you don't wish to play.
