Dukes Picked for 12th by Athlon Sports

Ah early September, when college basketball fanatics start checking shelves for preseason magazines. The Athlon Sports magazine hit the stands first this week and predicts the young Duquesne Dukes will just make the 2009 Atlantic 10 Championship Tournament.

NOTE: The top 12 of the league's 14 teams will get at least one game in the Atlantic 10 Men's Basketball Championship Tournament Atlantic City, N.J. the second week in March 2009.

Duquesne, with just one senior (Aaron Jackson) on the 2008-09 squad, is picked by Athlon Sports to finish 12th in the Atlantic 10 this season.

Last year, the A-10 media and coaches poll had DU coming in at no. 11. The Red and Blue were 17-13 in 2007-08, 7-9 in league play in a tie for ninth place and were the number 10 seed in the 07-08 event. La Salle (#11) beat DU, 82-79, in the tourney.

After noting the loss of Shawn James and Kojo Mensah to the NBA draft (sort-of), Athlon's reporter stated, "The good news is that even without James and Mensah, energetic coach Ron Everhart knows how to build a winner. Step one is recruiting, and Everhart has flooded the program with younmg talent."

Duquesne's roster breakdown by class:

           No. Scholarship
Senior 1 1
Junior 2 0
Sophomore 4 3
Freshman 8 8
Transfer 0 1 (soph)
