Niagara Hands Duquesne First Loss

Duquesne University's men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season Friday night when the Niagara Purple Eagles took a 1-0 win at Niagara Field in front of a record 658 fans.

Niagara's broke a scoreless tie in the 76th minute on Zach Scholla's goal off an assist from Carl Haworth.

Niagara (4-1-1) had the edge offensively with 15 shots and seven shots on goal. Duquesne was 12 and four. Ben Horner, the A-10 Player of the Week and a member of the National Team of the Week, got off four shots. Levi Tesch had five shots.

Chris Torres recorded six saves. Niagara's Jason Whitefield stopped all four Duquesne scoring attempts.

Duquesne (3-1-1) entered the game fourth in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCCA) Mid-Atlantic Region. The Purple Eagles are third in the NSCCA North Atlantic region,

The Dukes are off till next Friday, Sept. 26, 2008, when the Red and Blue host cross-town rival Robert Morris (1-3-1) in a 7:30 p.m. match on Rooney Field.
