With the first set tied at 17-17, KSU's Kristen Groce had a kill that gave the Golden Flashes their first lead of the set. Although the Dukes remained close, they could not regain the lead and dropped the first set 25-21.
Kent State's Celia Sabo's kill broke a 17-17 tie in the second set as KSU would go on win eight of the next 10 points, taking the set 25-19.
After Duquesne fell behind 17-7 in the third set, they went on a 16-3 run, but their comeback fell short as Kent State won the set 25-21 and the match 3-0.
In the second match of the day, Ohio State shutout Chicago State, 3-0.
