Former DU-Signee Dismissed by New Mexico St.

Johnny Higgins, who was released from a National Letter of Intent by Duquesne and subsequently signed with New Mexico State, has been dismissed from the Western Athletic Conference team according to a statement released on Thursday.

Johnny Higgins spent two years at Notre Dame Prep in Mass. after transferring from Randallstown High School in the Baltimore area.

Wednesday evening, Cecil Kirk coach Anthony Lewis told that Higgins was transferring to New Mexico Junior College.

Higgins averaged averaged 14.0 points and 7.0 assists in 2006-07 at Notre Dame Prep. He was reclassified to the class of 2008; stats from last season are not available.

Higgins averaged 27.8 points, 6.3 assists, 6.3 rebounds and 3.2 rebounds per game in leading Randallstown to the class 2A state title in 2005-06. He posted 15.5 points, 5.2 assists and 5.4 rebounds as a sophomore.

The statement said that Higgins was let go for a violation of team rules.

Old Dominion, Quinnipiac, Rhode Island and Virginia Tech had also recruited Higgins.
