The game scores 25-22, 23-25, 25-23, 25-8. Amanda Humphrey led Duquesne with 12 kills, Sarah Svorinic had a team-best 23 assists and Tricia Mullen recoded a team-high 16 digs. The loss drops the Dukes to 10-5 overall and 0-1 in the A-10 loop.
With the first set tied at 21-21, a Duquesne ball handling error and a GW kill by Liz Moult gave the Colonials a two point advantage. A Jessica Artman kill got the Dukes within one point at 23-22, but another Moult kill followed by a Dukes attack error gave GW the first set victory 25-22.
The second set was close from beginning to end. Tied at 20-20, Duquesne took the lead after a Colonials attack error and a Mullen service ace. A Moult kill would get GW within one point at 24-23, but a Colonials error on the next play tied the match at 1-1 as DU took the second set 25-23.
Duquesne played George Washington close in the third set, but could not catch up after trailing 11-10. The Dukes got within one point twice as a Mullen kill narrowed the gap at 21-20 and a bad GW set had the visitors lead cut to 24-23, but a DU attack error ended the set in favor of the Colonials 25-23.
The fourth set did not go well for the Red and Blue as they scored a season-low eight points. Duquesne fell behind 6-0 early and never got any momentum going as GW won the set 25-8 and the match 3-1
The Dukes hope to reverse their fortune Sunday afternoon as they take on Charlotte at 1:00 p.m. at the Palumbo Center.
