Dukes Improve to 11-5 with Win over 49ers

Duquesne's volleyball team, via Sunday's convincing 3-1 win over Charlotte at the Palumbo Center, improved their 2008 record to 11-5, 1-1 in Atlantic 10 Conference play. This ties the 2001 team for the best start in program history.

The game scores were 25-16, 25-9, 20-25 and 25-8. The 49ers are 8-8, 0-2 in league play.

Liz Homan led Duquesne with a game-high 14 kills; Brittany Poling added 10 winners. Amy Palko had 16, Jessica Artman 13, and A-10 Rookie of the Week Tricia Mullen saved 12 digs. Chelsea Tillotson recorded 42 assists. Amanda Humphrey had seven blocks, one solo.

Kathleen Hicks's 10 kills and Carly Romberg's game-high 19 digs paced Charlotte. Courtney Cowles assisted on 28 points.

After 16 matches in 2001, Duquesne was 11-5, 4-3 in the A-10. That team finished the season 16-10, 8-8 in league play.

Duquesne completes the 2008 non-conference schedule on Wednesday, October 1st, when cross-town rival Robert Morris (10-7) visits Palumbo for a 7:00 p.m. match.
