"We came out strong and got great contributions from a lot of people," said head coach Suzie McConnell Serio. "We challenged the team at the half, and they really stepped it up defensively."
Samantha Pollino led the Dukes with game-best 10 rebounds and six different players combined for 15 steals for DU (1-0) who defeated Morehead State last year in the season opener.
Tiffanie Stephens led MSU with 13 points.
The Dukes came out of the gates strong, taking an early nine point lead (13-4) in the first five minutes of the contest. Samantha Thompson's layup with six minutes remaining the half gave Duquesne their largest lead of the half, 15 points, at 29-14. A pair of Little foul shots closed out the first half scoring giving DU a 35-24 advantage.
Duquesne opened up the second half on a 29-5 run to take a commanding 63-30 lead. Jaclyn Babe, making her collegiate debut, was a perfect 4-4 from the field in the second half as the Dukes would see a lead as high as 41 points (76-35) The Eagles would get no closer than 26 points seconds before the final buzzer.
The Dukes host Cornell Sunday afternoon. Tipoff is at 1:00 p.m.
