Evans Named A-10 Rookie for Third Time

PITTSBURGH - Duquesne freshman Eric Evans (Detroit, Mich./Northwestern) has been named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for the second time in as many weeks and third time this season for his performance in the Dukes' 97-79 win over North Carolina Central on Dec. 22.

Eric Evans came off the bench to score a career-high 19 points in 23 minutes in the win over NCCU. It was the second time in Duquesne's past three games that the 5-11 guard set a new scoring high. Evans, who was 10-of-12 from the line, added a career-best five steals against the Eagles.

Evans, who was also named A-10 co-Rookie of the Week on Nov. 23 and outright Rookie of the Week on Dec. 21, joins St. Bonaventure's Andrew Nicholson as the only other three-time Rookie of the Week this season. Evans is now the sixth player in school history to win Rookie of the Week honors three or more times in a season.

Evans, the Dukes' third-leading scorer at 10.4 points per game, also leads Duquesne's eight-man freshman class in minutes per game at 23.4.

Duquesne (7-4) returns to action tonight at Robert Morris (6-5). Tip time is 7:00 p.m.
