Aaron Jackson Named A-10 Player of the Week

Duquesne senior guard Aaron Jackson has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Week following the Dukes' wins over Robert Morris and Bowling Green.

Aaron Jackson, Duquesne's lone scholarship upperclassman, averaged 16.5 points, seven assists, six rebounds and three steals in leading Duquesne to a pair of wins. He shot 10-for-19 from the floor and 11-of-13 from the line

The Connecticut native scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds in just 27 minutes of action last Sunday (Dec. 28) in the Dukes' 88-62 win over Robert Morris and then scored 15 points, dished out nine assists and added four steals as Duquesne turned aside Bowling Green, 76-65, in a New Year's Eve afternoon matchup.

This is the second A-10 Player of the Week honor of the season and fourth of his career for the Red & Blue's last player from the pre-Ron Everhart era. Of the six players who have been named league Player of the Week more than once in their career, Jackson is the only one who was not named to any of the three A-10 preseason All-Conference teams:

PLAYER, SCHOOL A-10 POW PRESEASON
Dionte Christmas, Temple 9 times 1st Team

Duquesne has received six individual conference awards in nine weeks so far this season. In addition to Jackson, sophomore Damian Saunders was co-player on November 30th and freshman Eric Evans has received top rookie honors three times (11/23, 12/21 and 12/28).

The 9-4 Dukes have the fourth best record in the league as intraleague competition begins this week with the Dukes hosting Charlotte on Wednesday, January 7, 2009, at 7:00 p.m. in the Palumbo Center.

Duquesne has won 19 non-conference games over the past two seasons, the most in back-to-back years since 1980 (11-6) and 1981 (8-8) and the first time since 1993 & 1994 the Dukes have posted consecutive winning records in non-conference play.
