Dukes Split Pair of Close Battles

Wednesday night, the Duquesne basketball teams split a pair of close battles as the DU women took Saint Joseph's, 53-51, at the Palumbo Center in Pittsburgh, while the Dukes' men's team dropped an overtime thriller, 78-74, to Saint Louis at the Billikens' Chaifetz Arena in Missouri.

Kristi Little, a 5-foot-4 senior point guard from Altoona, Pa., led the Dukes with 15 points, four assists and four steals. Junior guard Keri Pryor scored 14 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Sophomore forward Samantha Pollino had a game high 10 rebounds. Pollino and Pryor each blocked three shots.

Saint Joseph's Brittany Ford recorded a double-double with game-bests of 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Duquesne is now 13-9, 3-4 in Atlantic 10 play. The Hawks record is 10-12, 2-5 in league play.


The Duquesne men's team was led by senior Aaron Jackson's 29 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals. Sophomore Damian Saunders recorded a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds. Saunders also had six blocks and three steals.

Sophomore swingman Bill Clark posted 13 points and junior guard Jason Duty and freshman guard Eric Evans added nine points apiece. The other four DU players did not score.

Saint Louis had five players in double figures led by senior Kevin Lisch with 21 points. Senior Tommie Liddell III scored 13, freshman Willie Reed 12 while senior Barry Eberhardt and freshman Kwamain Mitchell each added 10 points. Liddell also recorded seven rebounds and six assists.

The Dukes are now 14-7, 5-3 A-10 while the Billikens are 13-9, 4-4 A-10.


The Dukes' teams switch locales for their next games on Saturday, February 7, 2009. The women travel to Charlotte for a 2:00 p.m. matchup.
