Dukes Drop Sat. Opener to Visiting Fordham

GREEN TREE -- Duquesne dropped the first game of Saturday's afternoon double header to Fordham, 10-2, at Duquesne Field in suburban Pittsburgh. This is the second week in a row for a rescheduled DH because of Friday rain in the Steel City.

Fordham's J.P. Mack (4-2) and Jordan Grangard held Duquesne to seven hits while the Rams doubled that total with two home runs for their 11th win against 18 losses. FU is 7-3 in Atlantic 10 Conference play.

Seniors Brian Bernardo and Bill Torre each were 2-for-3. Bernardo also drove in a run. The Dukes are 7-24 overall, 2-7 in league action.

Fordham scored twice in the first and added a single run in the second on Mike Moore's home run before the hosts hit the scoreboard. That happened in DU's next at bat. With Andrew Heck at second via a walk and stolen base, Bernardo got his ribee on a single to right center.

Duquesne remained quiet for the next five turns at the plate. During that span, the Rams added seven runs including Bobby DiNardo's three-run home run, to make the score, 10-1.

Brandon Carroll's grounder to short scored Derrik Zeroski who was on third after a double and wild pitch from reliever Grangard for the 10-2 final.

Red and Blue starter Ryan Juran (2-5), who has two of Duquesne's seven Ws, took the loss.

After a short break, the teams returned to the field for the nightcap with Duquesne looking to even the "score."
