Dukes Top Cougars, 1-0, to Even Record (3-3)

Duquesne's women soccer team continued its winning streak via a 1-0 victory over the College of Charleston at the 2009 Virginia Tech Hilton Garden Hokie Invitational on Friday afternoon in Blacksburg, Va. The victory is DU's second in a row and evened the Atlantic Conference program's record to 3-3.

Freshman Morgan Herbert (Dublin, Ohio) scored the game's only goal, and second of her short collegiate career, at 20:17 of the opening period. Classmate Shayla Bergerson (Hudson, N.H.) assisted on the gamewinner on Thompson Field.

Duquesne outshot the Cougars, 11-4, 7-3 on those headed to the net. Junior Gabby Morin (Perrysburg, Ohio) had three saves in her third shutout of the season and ninth of her three-year career. Charleston (2-2-1) goalie Sarah Wiggers had six saves.

The Dukes will take on the University of North Carolina, Greensburg on Sunday, September 13, 2009, in their final game of the tournament.
