Saunders Named A-10 Co-Player of the Week

PITTSBURGH - Duquesne junior Damian Saunders (Waterbury, Conn./Notre Dame (Mass.) Prep) has been named Atlantic 10 co-Player of the Week for his performance in DU's season-opening 85-62 win over Nicholls State.

The 6-foot-7 forward posted his eighth career double-double with 17 points and a career-high 19 rebounds along with five assists and four steals in 35 minutes against the Colonels. The 19 rebounds were the most by a Duquesne player since Simon Ogunlesi had 20 against Hampton in 2000.

Damian Saunders shares the award with Dayton's Chris Wright.

This is the second career A-10 Player of the Week honor for Saunders who earned league mention once in 2008-09.

Duquesne (1-0) returns to action on Tuesday, Nov. 17 at Iowa in the O'Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic. The game will be televised live by ESPNU at 9:00 p.m. (EST) as part of ESPN's College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon.
