Zykiesis Cannon, DB/WR, 5-11, 180 lbs, Greenville, N.C.
Tell me about yourself as a player? What are your strengths and weaknesses?
"Footwork is the key for me, my coaches have told me I could improve on it so I've been working hard to do so," Cannon said. "As far as my strengths go, my coaches have always told me I have great ball skills and wrap up nice in the open field."
Tell me about when you got your offer, which coach recruited you?
"Coach Foster was the coach who contacted me with my offer," Cannon said. "I hadn't heard much from ECU until yesterday, it caught me by surprise to be honest. When I talked to Coach Foster everything sounded great, they had all the classes I wanted and he told me a lot of stuff about how great the atmosphere is around campus."
What had you heard about ECU before getting your offer?
"My father told me they were a strong football program with a great fan base, D1 is always a high level to play at so I assumed it was the case. I've heard about NFL players coming from ECU and have seen their success at the next level. As a young player with a dream of being there one day it's enticing."
Have you visited campus yet?
"I haven't had a chance to visit yet but I talked to Coach Foster and plan on making the trip to ECU sometime soon."
How did your 2012 season end up?
"Last season we finished 3-7," Cannon said. "We had all new coaches, and a lot of new players so it was definitely a transition year for us. Our last game of the season we left it all out there on the field and I felt we came together as a team; it should give us a lot of good momentum going into next season."
What will you be working to improve on in the off-season?
"In the off-season I'm going to a lot of camps and combines, learning new techniques to become a complete player. I want to pick up as many things as I can to add to my game in order to make more of an impact out on the field."
I know you have gotten other offers recently, when do you plan on making your decision?
"As of right now, I'm just taking it all in," Cannon said. "I'm pretty sure I'll wait for signing day next year to make my decision because it is such a big choice. I want to be able to pick a school that I feel like is my home and that's going to take some time."
How would you rate your interest in ECU?
"My interest right now would be a seven or eight out of 10. It's still early in the process so I'm going to take my time to figure it out, I'm sure the visit will help me decide whether ECU is the place for me."
