Interview transcript

Which coach contacted you with your offer? What kind of feel did they give you about the program?

"(Head) Coach Ruffin McNeil gave me my offer," McClendon said. "He said they're a spiritual program that is on the come up with a lot of great young talent."

What did you know about ECU before you received your offer?

"I didn't know much about them at all and hadn't heard much from them either, until my offer."

After what you've heard, what do you like about ECU?

"I like that they are on the rise in football," McClendon said. "They told me my first year I'd redshirt and then get a chance to battle for the starting role."

Have you had a chance to visit yet?

"I haven't yet, but I plan on getting out there in the next couple of weeks, if not next week then definitely the following."

How did this past season turn out at West Mecklenburg?

"We finished 10-4 and lost in the second round of the playoffs," McClendon said. "I threw for 1700 yards with 17 touchdowns and 8 interceptions."

You're a dual-threat quarterback, but what do you favor? Your legs or your arm?

"My arm for sure, I'm an overall pocket-passer but feel as though I can break one the distance if I'm forced out of the pocket."

What are your plans for the off-season?

"For camps, I'll be going to Clemson and Florida State," McClendon said. "I am also trying to get up to Ohio State, along with other schools that I'm not sure of yet."

On a scale of 1-10 what is your interest in ECU?

"I'd say a 7 right now, that's just because I have been hearing from a lot bigger schools, but who knows where I'll end up going."

When do you see yourself making a decision?

"I'm going to wait until signing day," McClendon said. "It's a big decision that I want to get right so it's going to take time."

Final thoughts

Jalan McClendon is one of the most talented quarterbacks in the state of North Carolina. He has received offers from UNC, Wake Forest, South Carolina State, UNC Charlotte and now ECU. McClendon is a prospect to look out for; he's been receiving a lot of interest from big-time programs which could be due to his size and play-making ability. Jalan agreed to give me a call after his visit to let me know how it went.
