Baseball plays NCCU in a home-and-home series

The Pirates look to build on the 11-4 win over Elon against NC Central on Friday

ECU (12-14, 0-3) snapped its six-game losing streak on Wednesday, beating Elon 11-4, and now the team looks to continue that momentum against the North Carolina Central Eagles.

The Eagles (18-9, 8-4) are currently riding a nine-game winning streak entering the two-game series. The Pirates host NCCU on Friday, a 6 p.m. showdown in Clark-LeClair Stadium, before traveling to Durham on Saturday for a 3 p.m. game.

Coming off of a midweek doubleheader sweep over Longwood, the Eagles look to keep a set pitching rotation. NCCU will most likely go with LHP Michael Romano on the mound on Friday, who is 2-3 with a 5.00 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 45 innings of work. Saturday's starter for the Eagles will be RHP Glenn Frye, who is 3-1 with a 3.38 ERA, 30 strikeouts and two complete games in 40 innings of work.

Luis Diaz leads NCCU with a .354 batting average with seven doubles and two triples on 34 hits. Carter Williamson leads the team with 19 RBIs and Ronald Thompson is the only Eagle to hit a home run this season.

The Pirates are coming off of the win over Elon in which the offense hit four homeruns and collected 12 hits. For the season, Jack Reinheimer leads ECU with a .320 batting average while collecting 32 hits, 10 RBIs and a homerun. Chase McDonald leads the team with 19 RBIs and four homeruns.

Head coach Billy Godwin will send Jeff Hoffman to the mound on Friday and David Lucroy on Saturday. Hoffman (2-3, 4.54 ERA) has made six starts allowing 21 runs on 40 hits with 28 strikeouts and 16 walks in 37.2 innings. Lucroy (3-1, 1.89) has continued his impressive season, leading the team with 39 strikeouts with seven runs on 18 hits in 33.1 innings of work.

After the two-game series against NCCU, the Pirates host a pivotal home matchup against NC State in a midweek matchup.
