Interview transcript

Which coach contacted you with your offer? What did he tell you about the school?

"(Running back) Coach Kirk Doll, he offered me the same day Appalachian State did," Landry said. "He told me that he'd like me to visit as soon as possible and that it was a great place to be; I'm at Boston College visiting right now."

How does ECU stack up for you academically?

"I plan on studying Communications; I've heard ECU has a good program so it would work out nicely."

Tell me about this player-of-the-game award you earned against Douglas Byrd? 19 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 2 sacks and 1 forced fumble recovery? What got into you?

"Well my cousin was the quarterback for the other team," Landry said. "All my family and friends were there so I had to show out for them and that's what I did."

Junior year you finished with over ninety tackles and close to ten sacks. How'd the season go overall?

"We lost in the playoffs and finished the season 7-4, I did alright but definitely want to keep the offers coming in and have another big season next year."

Talk about playing on the same defensive line as big time recruit Lamont Gailard. He has offers from big time SEC schools, does that raise your level of play?

"It definitely drives me to work hard," Landry said. "He has some big offers but I feel like I'm capable of getting that kind of attention but will have to prove it with my play.

What are you going to be doing this off-season to help build on your game for next season and get more offers?

"I'm going to keep lifting, I want to gain weight and keep my speed. I'm attending the Rivals Under Armour Combine tomorrow April 7th."

Dreams of the NFL one day? Who's your favorite team and player?

"My favorite team is the Washington Redskins," Landry said. "Defensive-end Brian Kerrigan is my favorite player, I like the intensity he brings to the game."

What's your dream offer? On a scale of 1-10 what is your current interest in ECU?

"Florida would be the dream offer for me they're a great program," Landry said. "Right now my interest in ECU would be a 6, I'm still waiting to see if I get some more offers during this off-season.

When do you plan on making your decision?

"I'm hoping to sign over summer. I want to spend my senior season knowing where I'll be going so I can focus on my play."

Final thoughts

Harold Landry is a defensive-end to keep an eye on; he has great speed to go along with his size. His offers include Duke, Boston College, Appalachian State, The Citadel and now ECU. Look for Landry to pick up more offers in the coming weeks especially after attending the Rivals combine this weekend. Landry hasn't visited ECU yet but agreed to give me a call after he does to let me know how it went.
