Virginia Tech: 15 ECU: 10

Here are some post-game quotes from players and coaches after ECU's 15-10 loss to Virginia Tech today.

Head Coach Ruffin McNeill

Opening statement: It was a tough game. We played a good football team, I thought we fought from beginning to end and I was proud of our effort. Our kids never quit, I told people all week what I thought about coach (Frank) Beamer's team, I knew they would be talented and I thought we did a good job today. I thought we went back-and-forth and I was proud of our football team. We have a 24-hour rule here and will put this behind us. We'll get ready for the off week and prepare for our next opponent.

On missing opportunities: I thought our defense stepped up to put us in certain situations. We always want to take advantage of turnovers, but today we didn't get a chance to and didn't do as well as we could. We'll fix that and get it back.

On the offense's performance: They had a tough day, but I know they'll bounce back. They have a lot of pride; those kids will do anything we ask. We'll watch film tomorrow and fix it. We have the ability to take advantage of opportunities, but you have to give credit to Virginia Tech too.

Shane Carden

On getting into a groove on offense without time of possession: It's very difficult; the defense was doing a great job of holding them to 13 points. This offense definitely expects to score more than 10 points. We just have to get our drives going and finish them off.

On Hardy having a quiet day (6 catches for 31 yards): I'll have to look at the film, but we had some opportunities that we just didn't connect on and it's unfortunate. He's a good receiver and was playing a good game, but we just have to connect better next time.

On what the offense needs to do against UNC Chapel Hill: We need to play eleven man football, we were just a little bit off today. Whatever it was, it doesn't matter, and we just have to play better by finishing drives and sustaining our focus.

Vintavious Cooper

On what changed after the offense marched down the field on the opening drive: I honestly feel like we just didn't sustain it. We had the momentum to begin the game and came in firing on all cylinders. To not be able to sustain momentum like that is a heartbreaker, you need (momentum) against a good team that can bounce back like they did. We're going to work on everything before UNC Chapel Hill. On Virginia Tech's defense: It wasn't anything we haven't seen before, maybe they were a little bit faster, but it boils down to us going out there and making plays.

Adonis Armstrong

On the potential blocked field goal that led to a first down for VT: I think a defensive lineman got a piece of it. I just tried to go block it to make a play for the team with a scoop and score. Unfortunately it didn't pan out that way.
