Opening statement: I'm very excited about the win. We knew we'd catch (N.C. State's) best shot, and we did. I also thought they would play until the end, they did. I was proud of the way our group prepared last week. We were able to come in and execute fairly well. I thought defensively we made some good adjustments after their first drive. Offensively, we did a good job being balanced, Shane (Carden) did a good job of getting us in the right play and (offensive coordinator) Lincoln Riley did as well. I was very proud of our team.
On winning a rivalry game this late in the season: Coming into this game in the middle of a conference race was tough. To be able to keep focused in as big of a game as this, being that it's an in-state rivalry and facing in-state talent, for our kids to do that I'm very proud of them. We could have finished better, but now we have to get ready for this next short week.
On senior running back Vintavious Cooper's 140 yard game: I thought Coop was being Coop, but it goes back to the offensive line. They did a great job of protecting and giving him running room – and then Tay was his own blocker at times. I think Cooper will be the first one to give all of the credit to the offensive line.
On the offense clicking: There's more room to grow, I can answer that very quickly. Execution-wise we can get better. We always talk about ‘raising the level' whether it be individually or fundamentally. There is a lot of room to grow and we still have plenty of chances and opportunities to do it.
Quarterback Shane Carden:
On Justin Hardy breaking the single-season record for receiving yards: That's what Justin does. He comes up big and makes big plays by getting the ball in his hands. He's Justin Hardy, he makes big plays down the field and that's what he's known for.
On ECU beating N.C. State and UNC Chapel Hill for the first time in the same season: It means a lot. It means a lot for the Pirate Nation and I know that. It's something we can look back on when this year is over and kind of think about more. But right now we have to move on. We have a big game against Marshall this week.
Linebacker Zeek Bigger
On how the defense stopped N.C. State after giving up a score on its first drive: We made a couple of adjustments. The coaches came to the sideline and asked us what we were seeing differently. So we told them and wrote things on the board. From there on, we do what they want us to do on the field and it worked.
Running back Vintavious Cooper:
On whether this game was about respect: I would say it was about a respect a little bit. It's a big in-state rivalry and definitely has to do with some respect. We don't feel like enough people give us a chance being East Carolina, so it's up to us to prove ourselves.
On how he was so effective today: I think it's just my offensive line. They keep me up and push me to do more. They tell me they play better because of me, but I think I play better because of them. It starts with them and without them I would never have games like this.
On approaching his second-straight 1,000-yard season: It's something special to me because this is my first Division-1 school and if I make that impact for and offense two years in a row I'd be proud. It's a big accomplishment and I'd like to do it before I leave.
Wide receiver Justin Hardy
On breaking former teammate Dwayne Harris' record for receiving yards in a season: It's a great record to break. With Dwayne being who he was here that's a big record for me to break.
