Thomas Commits to ECU

2015 Amos P. Godby (Tallahassee, Fla) outside linebacker Danny Thomas committed to ECU Friday. Inside ECU Sports spoke with him about the decision.

ECU has added names to its 2015 class in the last couple of weeks. The most recent to pledge to the Pirates, outside linebacker Danny Thomas, made his decision official yesterday Friday May 23.

"I talked to (defensive coordinator) Rick Smith," said the 6-foot-2, 220-pound Thomas. "He really wants me, but had to talk to head coach (Ruffin McNeill). Ruff is the coach who offered me and the main coach who wanted me there. I'm his guy, he said, if I commit he will take me no matter what."

The coaches are what solidified Thomas' decision. He mentioned McNeill did a great job selling the ideas of the program and the school to him. Despite never having been to North Carolina, he is confident in his decision and excited to get started.

Thomas will try to make his first visit to campus between June 14 and June 21. He is looking forward to the experience and will have a chance to meet all of the coaches.

For Thomas he was looking for a school that made him comfortable and he credits ECU with doing so. He chose to play for the Pirates over Cincinnati and USF.

When describing his game, Thomas said he's a big-play linebacker. His football IQ is something he takes pride in and it allows him to make plays on the field. For the summer he will be in the gym working to gain strength and speed.

Barring Alabama, Oregon or a school like Florida State extending him an offer, Thomas is all set to be an ECU Pirate.

He now joins Kettle Run's Abu Kai Kai, Ayden Grifton's Justin Brown and N. Myrtle Beach's Colby Gore as ECU's four 2015 defensive commits for the class.

"I feel like my recruiting is over and I made the right decision," said Thomas.
