Morehead Updates Recruitment

2015 Eastern Guilford (Gibsonville, N.C.) safety Jarius Morehead has been on ECU's radar for quite some time. Inside ECU Sports spoke with him for an update about his recruitment.

ECU has long sought after Eastern Guilford safety Jarius Morehead and he is also fond of the Pirates. Defensive coordinator Rick Smith likes his style of play and physicality which resulted in him extending an offer to Morehead last year.

The Pirates aren't the only team to offer Morehead and certainly won't be the last. The summer and fall of 2013 helped bring Morehead's offer list to six with some impressive schools joining the mix.

Right now he has offers from ECU, N.C. State, Wake Forest, UNC Charlotte, Clemson and most recently Old Dominion.

On May 19 Morehead told N.C. State was leading in his interests. With a lot of time between now and when he could chose a school, things could change. Either way, ECU is still in the picture right now.

"(N.C. State) is still in the lead, but ECU is second of my top three schools," said the 6-foot-1, 185-pound Morehead. "I will visit ECU this summer, but I'm not sure when yet. Clemson is the third school in my list of favorites."

As a junior, Morehead finished his season with 40 tackles, two interceptions, nine pass breakups and a forced fumble on defense. Offensively, he had 239 yards receiving and two touchdowns. He has been invited to showcase his talents at the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas on June 27, giving him another solid opportunity for more coaches to see him play.

Summer will be officially underway for Morehead once classes end tomorrow Thursday, June 12. He's looking forward to hitting the ground running with his summer workout regimen and traveling.

"I'm going to Connecticut to work out and do speed training for five days," said Morehead. "After the Shrine Bowl I'm going to the beach for a few days to get some work in there. I'm trying to gain some weight, get my football more precise and work on my speed."

With so many programs interested, Morehead is taking his time to carefully consider the schools he likes. As of right now he plans on pledging to a school in rock star fashion – he will let it be known during his senior night, the last home game of his high school career.
