”I’ve been hearing a lot from Purdue and Louisville,” said Sterling Hammond. “Those are the schools recruiting me the hardest right now and Virginia Tech and ODU are still recruiting me, too. Those are the four schools I’m still considering."
His most recent visit was to an in-state school.
”The last place I went to was ODU,” said the 6-foot-1, 190-pound Hammond. “I liked it. I got to meet with the coaches and they told me that I could come in and play right away, so I liked that a lot. I enjoyed the visit.”
According to Hammond, one school has taken the lead.
”Louisville has a slight edge at this point,” he said. “I like the new coaching staff a lot. They have really impressed me and they're just really good people. I talk to (safeties) coach (Greg) Brown a lot and he’s been talking to me about the role I’d play for them.”
What’s next for the Essex standout?
”I plan on taking a visit to Virginia Tech next month,” Hammond said. “I haven’t set a date for the visit yet. I’d also like to visit Purdue and Louisville. The latest I'll go with my recruiting is December and the earliest I could commit is sometime next month.”
Certain things will help him make his decision.
”Education is going to be the main factor,” he said. “I want to major in business. I also want to go to a school that feels like home. The other factor is the coaches. I want to play for a good coaching staff.”
