Jacksonville (Fla.) Sandalwood High School class of 2015 defensive tackle prospect Darius Smalls received his first scholarship offer recently. The 6-foot-2 and 340-pound senior picked up an offer from UNC-Charlotte and continues to hear from several FBS programs on a regular basis this summer.

"I have been hearing from UNC-Charlotte, FIU, Georgia Southern, Miami and a little bit of South Carolina," said Smalls of who he has been hearing from this summer.

Smalls received his first scholarship offer just prior to the start of fall camp which started this week for Florida high schools.

"UNC-Charlotte offered. They like my size and how I can come in and contribute to their program. It is a new program going into Division I and they need size. Georgia Southern and FIU are close to offering," Smalls said.

Both FIU and Georgia Southern plan on checking back in on Smalls during the early part of the 2014 season.

"When I went to FIU’s camp they told me I was a great player and that they just wanted me to drop a little more weight. Georgia Southern said the same thing," Smalls explained.

East Carolina, Florida Atlantic, South Florida and Central Florida have also expressed interest in Smalls according to Sandalwood head football coach Adam Geis.
