ECU Ranked in National Polls

GREENVILLE, N.C. — The Pirates were rewarded for their consecutive victories against ranked opponents Sunday in the national polls.

Following its 70-41 victory against North Carolina, East Carolina was ranked No. 24 in the weekly Coaches Poll that was released Sunday. The Pirates received 153 votes, which are two fewer than fellow in-state school, Duke (4-0).

A couple hours later, the Pirates were slotted a spot higher at No. 23 in the AP Poll with 180 points — just behind Ohio State (196).

ECU appears in the Top 25 polls for the first time since its magical start to the 2008 season that included back-to-back wins against ranked opponents, Virginia Tech and West Virginia. After climbing as high as 14th in the national polls, the Pirates were eventually knocked off by N.C. State in a memorable overtime loss at Carter-Finley Stadium.

Earlier Sunday morning, Zeek Bigger was named the Walter Camp Defensive Player-of-the-Week following his 17-tackle, pick-6 performance against the Tar Heels. It marks the first time an ECU player has garnered Walter Camp Player-of-the-Week honors.
