Virginia, Appalachian State, Purdue, Citadel, Georgia State, N.C. Central and ECU have all extended offers to Mooresville defensive end Chazmyn Turner. As a senior Turner has helped lead his team to a 10-0 start to the season and his recruiting is picking up as a result.
It could be his impressive combination of size and speed or it could be his knack for stopping the run, whatever the case more and more schools are beginning to show interest in Turner.
Other schools Texas, UNC Chapel Hill and Miami could be the next to offer Turner after his head coach sent game film. The N.C. State Wolfpack is also showing interest.
Turner was caught off guard by his offer from ECU when his coach told him about it on Halloween. Nonetheless he is happy the Pirates decided to give him the offer.
“It was good to get an offer from ECU,” said the 6-foot-5, 240-pound Turner. “I like the school a lot and they seem to think I have a lot to offer them on the defensive line.”
Defensive line coach Marc Yellock and outside linebackers coach Duane Price make the calls for the front seven on defense and both have recruited Turner heavily. Since his sophomore season Turner has been hearing from ECU, he even visited for a junior day.
Turner’s last visit to campus was for the Pirates’ Thursday night win over Connecticut.
“The game day atmosphere was crazy (at ECU),” said Turner. “I got to see the whole school on my junior day visit last summer and it went great. ECU will be in my recruitment until the end.”
So when will Turner’s recruitment end? For right now he is confident the end of December or early January is when he will make the decision on a school.
Through the first ten games this season Turner has 58 tackles, 39 solo tackles, four sacks, one forced fumble and three fumble recoveries.
With Signing Day 2015 fast approaching ECU will likely keep up the pressure on Turner’s recruitment especially since other programs are doing the same.
