Lincoln Riley Comments on Speculation

GREENVILLE, N.C. — Lincoln Riley talks about some of the rumors that have surfaced involving where he will be coaching after this season.

Following the East Carolina football team’s first practice in preparation of the Birmingham Bowl Saturday, fifth-year offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley spoke about the media reports that have surfaced involving other programs showing interest in him.

Below are the questions and Riley’s responses in their entirety.

Is there anything you can tell us about all the speculation that there has been over the last week?

LR: I still got that on my shirt (points at his ECU sweatshirt). I’m here. I’m here and I’m ready to coach this bowl game.”

What’s your policy on welcoming offers? Coach Ruffin McNeill said his coaches have always come to him whenever a team had called showing interest in them. Do you welcome inquiries prior to the season ending or do you wait until after the bowl game?

LR: “I think it depends on the situation. I’d do what he’s comfortable with. Ruffin is the head coach. Not that it’s changed over the years, but I do what he’s comfortable with. I work here at East Carolina and I love this job. Whatever he wants, that’s what I’m going to do.”

Have there been teams that have been interested or that have contacted you?

LR: “I better stay away from that one right now.”
