6-foot-10 Forward Commits To ECU

2016 Victory Rock Prep (Bradenton, Fla.) power forward Deng Riak committed to East Carolina in March and plans to sign with the Pirates’ 2015 class. Inside ECU Sports takes a look at what he brings to the class with the verbal commitment.

A 6-foot-10, 215-pound power forward commit is just what the doctor ordered for ECU men’s basketball’s 2015 recruiting class. Deng Riak appears to be bringing that size to Greenville, North Carolina.

His commitment to ECU happened in the beginning of March and he plans to sign with ECU’s 2015 class in the late signing period which opens next week, April 15. Head Coach Jeff Lebo has to be thrilled to hear the news about Riak especially since this class has lacked the impressive size he possesses.

Riak, a native of Australia, is choosing ECU over offers from Florida, Virginia Tech, Florida International, Florida Atlantic and Florida Gulf Coast. His game circles around his incredible athleticism and ability to shot block on the defensive end of the court.

Lebo will need to take time to develop and craft Riak’s offensive game, but his size alone should give him the ability to impact the team if he avoids a red-shirt next season. For now, it appears the Pirates are close to inking an impressive player to their 2015 class.
