Reid Love Named AAC Player of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – East Carolina senior Reid Love has been named American Athletic Conference Player-of-the-Week according to an announcement by the league office Monday.

Reid Love picked up his second weekly honor this season following his pitcher-of-the-week selection back on Apr. 6.

On the week, he batted .444 (8-for-18) with three RBI and two runs scored, hitting safely in all five games of a 5-0 week for the Pirates that included a sweep of UCF and walk-off wins over NC State and Duke. Love tripled in the bottom of the ninth against the Wolfpack to ignite the 6-5 come-from-behind win scoring the game-tying run. Against the Blue Devils he reached on an infield single in the bottom of the 10th with one-out, which led to East Carolina’s second-straight walk-off win, 3-2.

The senior from Dunnellon, Florida, was also a factor on the mound, as he tossed 8.2 innings of two-run ball in Saturday's 3-2 win over the Knights that clinched the weekend series. Love fanned a career-high nine batters retiring at least one via strikeouts in seven frames (multiple in the second and seventh innings). He retired the side in order four times and never faced more than five batters in one inning.

For the year, Love is hitting .336 with three home runs and 14 RBI, while he holds a 2.70 ERA in 17 appearances (six starts) and 51 strikeouts against eight walks in 56.2 innings.

Love and the Pirates (29-16) will be back in action on Wednesday, Apr. 29 when they travel to Liberty (28-16) for a midweek match-up at the Liberty Baseball Stadium. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. (ET).
