Brooks Named AAC Player of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — ECU junior Garrett Brooks has been named American Athletic Conference Player-of-the-Week according to announcement by the league Monday.

Brooks helped the Pirates (36-20, 14-9) to a perfect 4-0 week and a second place finish in the league standings after batting a team-best .571 (4-for-7) with two home runs, four RBI and three RBI. He recorded at least one hit, one RBI and scored at least one run in all three starts.

The Chesapeake, Va. native started the week going 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored against instate foe Elon. Brooks continued his week Thursday belting his second career home run, a two-run shot, at Cincinnati while recording a pair of hits in the Pirates 7-3 victory.

Friday he connected on his third home run of the season, second of the series, sending a solo shot to right field off the scoreboard in a series clinching 6-4 victory. In the regular season finale, Brooks pinch-hit in the seventh inning drawing a walk in his lone at bat.

ECU freshman Joe Ingle took home AAC Honor Roll accolades after closing out two of three games against Cincinnati last week in the series sweep. The Fayetteville, N.C. native tossed 3.1 scoreless innings in three games against the Bearcats with a pair of saves and five strikeouts.

On the season Ingle leads the pitching staff with a 0.70 ERA in 27 appearances with six saves, while holding opposing hitters to a .119 composite batting average. In league play, the right-hander did not allow a run in 14.0 innings (15 appearances), registered five saves and has a 22-to-six strikeout to walk ratio.

The second-seeded Pirates will kickoff the 2015 American Athletic Conference Championships on Wednesday, May 20 at 11 a.m. (ET) against No. 7 seed UCF.
