Reid Love – 2015 Biographical Sketch

One of 10 semi-finalist for the John Olerud Two-Way Player-of-the-Year Award, a First-Team All-American Conference selection as a pitcher and utility player — the latter a unanimous selection — and senior Co-Captain. He earned American Athletic Conference All-Tournament Team honors (utility) after batting .286 (4-for-14) with a pair of RBI and runs scored and on the mound, allowed three runs (all earned) on nine hits with a season-high nine strikeouts in 8.0 innings against UCF.

Love is the only player in the AAC to earn Pitcher (April 6) and Player-of-the-Week (April 27) honors and also earned AAC Honor Roll accolades on April 20th. On the mound, he posted a 7-4 record with four saves in 22 appearances (11 starts) and struck out 82 while walking just 12 in 96.0 innings, while allowing 32 runs (30 earned).

He was ranked 14th nationally in strikeout-to-walk ratio (6.83) and 15th in walks per nine innings (1.13) – both leading the AAC and recorded eight quality starts (6.0 IP and 3 or less ERs), ranking second with Jacob Wolf on the team (trailing only Evan Kruczynski’s 10). Love tossed a pair of complete games (Tulane and Connecticut) and notched his third career shutout against the Green Wave (April 2), allowing four hits with six strikeouts.

The senior tossed a season-high nine batters on two occasions (both vs. UCF), working into the seventh inning in 9 of 11 starts and recording four or more strikeouts 11 times. He allowed three or less earned runs in 10 of 11 starts and did not surrender a walk in 12 of 22 games. As a reliever, Love allowed one or less earned run in 10 of 11 contests (two or less hits nine times) and was ranked among the league leaders (all games) in fly ball outs (8th/86), innings (eighth), strikeouts (eighth), saves (t8th), ERA (10th), ground ball outs (10th/104).

At the plate, he batted .287 (51-for-178) with three home runs, 20 RBI and 25 runs scored, and tallied 14 multi-hit and six multi-RBI games. Love led the club with a .342 average in league play, which ranked third in the AAC, and registered at least one hit in 31 of 50 contests (reaching base safely in 37 of 50 games).

He scored at least one run in 20 games (multiple four times) and had streaks of six and five games with at least one run scored. When he hit in the top third of the lineup, ECU posted a 29-13 record. The versatile player appeared in 13 games in CF, 10 in RF and 23 as the DH.
