2016 Commit Johnnie Glaspie

ECU's 2016 recruiting class picked up its first running back thanks to the commitment of in-state back Johnnie Glaspie.

2016 Wallace Rose-Hill (Teachey, N.C.) running back Johnnie Glaspie committed to East Carolina on Monday.

The 6-foot 185-pound running back is ranked as the tenth best back in the state of North Carolina and boasts an array of offers, including ones from West Virginia, Wake Forest and North Carolina.

Glaspie experienced time on both sides of the ball at Wallace Rose-Hill and was a key part of last season’s state-championship team. With three-stars to his name, Glaspie adds a lot to the 2016 recruiting class and is the first running back in the class.

The running back position is at times overlooked in a pass-heavy attack similar to ECU’s but head coach Ruffin McNeill and offensive coordinator Dave Nichol have expressed interest in having a feature back in the offense.

His 2014 season included 110 carries for 1,040 yards and 23 touchdowns.

Before his visit to campus in April, Glaspie expressed an interest in committing to the school if the visit went well.

The rising senior joins quarterback Reid Herring, receiver Tahj Deans, athlete Kenyon Taylor, offensive linemen Cortez Herrin and Justin Chase, defensive lineman Jalen Price and Rondre Knowles-Tener and cornerback Keyshawn Canady in ECU’s 2016 class.
