Udeogu Looks Forward to ECU Visit
Class of 2016 Chinedu Udeogu out of Georgetown Prep (MD) currently has ten schools on his list that have officially offered. Within the ten schools that are all on his is list, the defensive end said that Rutgers, East Carolina, Yale, James Madison have all stuck out. While the 6-foot-5, 245-pound lineman only began his football career two years ago. In the short amount of time, Udeogu has developed his already athletic frame into an above average football player. “It was a little confusing at first,” Udeogu said. “Once I started to pick it up I just fell in love with it. I want to play football as long as I can. It feels really good, I’ve worked really hard on it. It feels good that my work is showing and I still have a lot to learn so I’m just looking forward to it.” Udeogu is digging deeper into his recruiting process this summer and fall he has only taken visits to Rutgers and Yale so far. Udeogu plans to visit ECU and others schools during this coming season but doesn’t have an official visit date set. Udeogu said he is enjoying his growing recruiting process as he continues to pick up more offers. ECU only came into the picture just this last month. The lineman said that he hadn’t known a lot about ECU until they officially offered him on June 23rd. “I didn’t know too much about ECU until a few months ago, I do know that their program is only getting better and better,” Udeogu said. A relationship has already developed between Udeogu and ECU’s defensive line coach Mark Yellock. Yellock is the main recruiter for the lineman and it could be a key part of his decision. “I definitely like coach Yellock a lot, we have messaged a lot on Twitter. I talk to him maybe once a week and talk on the phone with him once a week,” Udeogu explained. “Coach Yellock seems like a really good person and a coach from what I hear and I would love to play for him.” While Udeogu has yet to visit campus he has been in the state of North Carolina, where he has family living. Udeogu said that the state of North Carolina is an attraction for him but won’t be a main factor when deciding what school he will attend. Another factor that Udeogu has taken into consideration is ECU’s ability to develop their players for the next level. Udeogu’s favorite NFL team is the Chicago Bears, which have recently signed former Pirates Shane Carden and Terry Williams. Without a visit to ECU and just based off the last month of communication with the coaching staff and the research Udeogu has done he rates his current interest in ECU as a six or seven on a ten-point scale. The physical lineman believes that his strengths will help him translate well to the college level. “I’m physically strong, I can outman any offensive lineman that I go up against. I’m quick, much quicker than the offense would think so I can close the hole and get some sacks,” Udeogu said. The process still has a lot of room to grow for Udeogu and within the next year he will officially make his decision of where he wants to continue his football career. For the time, Udeogu will soak in the opportunities he has. “It means a lot, not everyone gets this opportunity. I’m really going to take full advantage of the opportunity I have and I’m very thankful for this.”
